BDDW and M.Crow are overseen by artist and designer, Tyler Hays. BDDW is a furniture company founded in 1995. Known for producing handcrafted pieces in their signature heirloom quality solid wood, made with traditional joinery techniques and finished with hand-rubbed natural oils and lacquers, BDDW also offer an array of hand-finished garments and individually handcrafted and hand-painted ceramics made in Hays’ Frankford Philadelphia ceramics studio. A vein of high quality stoneware was discovered by Hays and his team beneath their studio, from which they were able to source a small quantity of clay to produce a limited number of ceramic pieces. All items are made in small runs, each piece is one of a kind. M.Crow is a general store located in the remote Wallowa valley in Lostine, northeastern Oregon where Hays was born and raised. M.Crow was originally opened by the Crow family, who along with Hays’ great great grandparents, were amongst the first few dozen families to settle in the valley in the late 1800s. In 2012, Hays purchased the store to prevent its closure and the loss of a significant childhood memory. M.Crow represents a collision of Hays’ hobbies and interests, offering the opportunity to fulfill his childhood fantasy of making everything from scratch. Along with pursuing dozens of side interests like bee-keeping and micro-brewing, Hays is dedicated to using locally gathered materials to produce a vast array of products from toothpaste, to furniture, clothing and boots, to butter dishes and record players.
