Valentin Loellmann
Steps
Blue Projects presents an exhibition of new works by Valentin Loellmann.
Loellmann has established a name for himself with furniture pieces that are characterised by unexpected pairings of materials, meticulous attention to detail and curved forms that appear to be drawn with the stroke of a brush. His work is guided by intentions and personal reflections, treating the pieces and their surroundings as a whole.
The works in this exhibition further explore the ambiguity inherent to Loellmann’s furniture pieces, oscillating between sculptural and functional qualities. Comprised of large-scale pieces in copper, stainless steel, marble and charred oak with mirror polished surfaces, the works are entirely constructed by hand from start to finish, offering the viewer isolated experiences of scale and material.
Valentin Loellmann (b. 1983) lives and works in Maastricht. His work has been exhibited at various art and design fairs such as Art Basel, Basel; Collective, New York; and Pavillion Art and Design, Paris/ London, where he was awarded PAD London’s Best Contemporary Design Piece in 2013 and 2017.
