Memotone is a autodidactic multi-instrumentalist and composer. His music spreads-out wide, and is shot through with an endlessness: atmospheres between bliss and who-knows where, replete with unnamed qualities that you know when you feel.

One of several aliases of Will Yates, he has written music for chamber ensembles, jazz trios and pop bands alike, and has worked with many artists over the years, including Dmitry Evgrafov, Batu, Phealeh, Mister Water Wet, Tarotplane and many more, branching into both pop and the hidden recesses of the verdant underground as a satellite member of Avon Terror Corps and the shadowy ‘Phesantry Society’.
Leaning into jazz, contemporary classical, ambient and esoteric fourth-world music, Memotone – described by Boomkat as ‘One of the UK’s shapeshifting best’ – has released music with labels: The Trilogy Tapes, Accidental Meetings, Soda Gong, Patience/Impatience, Sahko Recordings, Folklore Tapes, Termina, Black Acre, Diskotopia, Industrial Coast and more, with a hoast of records on the horizon. AKA O. G. Jigg (with releases on PLAQUE, Efficient Space, Earth Memory Recordings, Folklore Tapes, Tax Free Records and through Memorecs).
Fever of the World LP
Following releases on Sähkö Recordings and The Trilogy Tapes, Fever of the World is the Soda Gong debut. As a collection, it is both intimate and expansive, like the feeling of gathering one’s thoughts before setting off on a long journey or committing to an irrevocable course of action. Throughout are the sonic signatures that have come to characterise the Memotone catalog: low-lit, ECM-inflected noir; evasive and evolving loop-based accretions; and mellifluous mosaics of keys, guitar, reeds, and percussion. It is patient and focused music, built around production techniques and compositional ideas that have been perfected both in studio and in live performance over a period of several years.
