Stairs (Weavers Waist & Felting Feet)

Alexis Gautier handbuilt coat in natural wool handwoven with local craftspeople using traditional techniques in Lamjung Bhujung, Nepal. Exhibited as part of Blue Projects' inaugural exhibition Stairs, Zebra, Bees and Light Purple Jackets by Alexis Gautier in 2018.

Woven on a back loom and felted over a period of two days. All colouring is natural wool. The graphic pattern is woven into the textile, featuring grey, black, and cream motifs that depict the making process of the work.

Features cream body, integrated grey and black motifs, graphic black border, hand-stitched construction, two side pockets, deep cut lapel, pleat on rear that creates volume, double snap fastening on front that creates overlap, selvedge edge on sleeves and front, and incorporated fringe hem.
