Striped Coat
£2,083.33

Alexis Gautier handbuilt and entirely hand-sewn Jacquard weave coat made in Belgium. Each coat requires approximately 30 hours of hand-sewing to complete. Exhibited as part of Blue Projects' inaugural exhibition Stairs, Zebra, Bees and Light Purple Jackets by Alexis Gautier in 2018.
The handbuilt Jacquard fabric was developed and woven in collaboration with Stephen Walters & Sons, who have been working as expert silk weavers for over nine generations.
Gautier created a digital interpretation of a painting by Belgian artist Kasper Bosmans, translating the work into a woven textile of silk, cotton, and wool, created on a highspeed loom with 5,000 needles and non-repetitive patterns on the weft. The motif depicts the technique of cutting fabric with diagonal stripes on the bias.
The woven panels create a reversible coat: one side in white tones and the other in a colourful loose weave. Features open front and hand-taped edge detail.
