Buchu and Rooibos
FYNBOS LOOSE-LEAF INFUSION HERBS
100g natural rooibos and wild-harvested buchu leaf blend
An 'African farm brew', with a deliciously smooth and revitalising flavour.
Notes of black currant, rosemary and peppermint with a warm woody finish.
Rooibos is sourced from Aspalathus linearis, a plant that is indigenous to South Africa’s Cederberg Mountains, located north of Cape Town. Rich in antioxidants, Rooibos is also a source of polyphenols such as the compound aspalathin, which may help to protect against free radical damage, and contribute to boosting the metabolism.
Known as a ‘miracle herb’ Buchu (or Agathosma betulina) is one of the most important traditional herbal medicines emanating from South Africa. Buchu was used by the indigenous Khoisan for centuries who believed it to be an elixir of youth. The Khoi-Khoi and San people considered buchu a cure for all illnesses and an aid to longevity. They chewed the fresh or dried leaves or made infusions for medicinal purposes. Buchu is believed to have potent anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial properties, enabling it to act as a natural antibiotic. Buchu contains naturally occurring antioxidants and bioflavonoids such as quercetin, rutin, hesperidin, diosimin, diosphenol and Vitamins A, B and E.
Both Buchu and Rooibos are found within the Fynbos biome. Derived from an Old Dutch word meaning ‘fine bush’, Fynbos refers to the plants associated with the mountains and coastal belt of South Africa’s Cape region. UNESCO added the Cape Floral Kingdom to its World Heritage List in 2004, citing it as one of the world’s greatest centres of terrestrial biodiversity. Most of the nearly 9000 plant species found in its Cape Floristic Region exist nowhere else on earth.
Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Naturally caffeine-free.
